Episode 209 - THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY

The world has changed. It's been two decades since The Lord of the Rings trilogy redefined everything about epic cinema, and we're kicking off a new year of podcasting with an episode to match the scale and ambition of Peter Jackson's classic imagining of the seminal fantasy saga.

Because though some of what was has been lost, there are still many who remember, including our own fellowship of Alyssa Renzi, Barm, and Sean Davis, who each join us to pontificate on their personal favorite entry of the trilogy. It's a LOTR lovefest that's nothing short of...precious.

Episode 192 - FIGHT CLUB

Whether you consider it a haymaker of socio-political satire or a manual for radicalizing restless young men, Fight Club clearly knows how to land some punches. Grimy yet seductive, the movie has become startlingly prescient in presenting what once seemed like an extreme response to economic and spiritual crisis. It's too bad the rules say we can't actually talk about it...

Sean Davis meets us at a very strange time in our lives, as we give a blow-by-blow of the mischief, mayhem, and (subliminal?) meanings of Fight Club.

Fight Club (1999)

Episode 145 - ALADDIN

Aladdin promised a whole new world of narrative possibilities for Disney's resurgent animation division. It expanded the studio's fantastic point of view beyond traditional European folktales while soaring and tumbling with a freewheeling attitude perfectly suited to the '90s. And with no one telling improvisational genius Robin Williams "no," the film had nowhere to go but into the endless diamond sky of our warmest childhood memories.

It's an indescribable feeling as Sean Davis shares his shining, shimmering, splendid insights on this treasured Disney classic. We've got plenty of new horizons to pursue, so come join us on this magic carpet ride!

Aladdin (1992)
Directed and produced by Ron Clements and John Musker
Written by Ron Clements & John Musker and Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio
Starring Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker, Gilbert Gottfried, Douglas Seale, and Robin Williams

Episode 115 - WILLOW

As Solo: A Star Wars Story swaggers into theaters, we turn our attention to the O.G. collaboration between Ron Howard and Lucasfilm: the epic fantasy Willow, a movie that leans hard into genre traditions while attempting to make children simultaneously giggle with delight and soil their pants in terror. Just your garden-variety '80s family film operating within a far more permissive ratings board culture.

Sean Davis, co-host of the After the Credits podcast, was there to experience the magic at the beginning, and shares his memories with us during the glorious conclusion of Not Quite Star Wars Month. Listen in to learn how Willow blends practical wizardry and cutting-edge technology, and how it serves a story that is by turns emotionally resonant, staunchly conventional, and wildly silly.
